In 71 AD the Roman Empire began its attempted occupation of 'Caledonia' the area now known as Scotland. The Picts or 'painted ones' were the native people of this area and stood against Rome until they eventually gave up their effort and departed in 213 AD. Before Rome's fall, the Pictish people symbolized the last of the free people, victorious in their fight against submission and slavery; as most other Celtic and Germanic tribes were already defeated, many of which incorporated into the Roman Army.

This EP is written from the perspective of the Picts during this time period. Using guerrilla warfare tactics, they picked at their forces and only attacked on their own terms, playing only to their strengths. They are a symbol of effective resistance to tyranny.

"But there are no tribes beyond us, nothing indeed but waves and rocks, and the yet more terrible Romans, from whose oppression escape is vainly sought by obedience and submission. Robbers of the world, having by their universal plunder exhausted the land, they rifle the deep. If the enemy be rich, they are rapacious; if he be poor, they lust for dominion; neither the east nor the west has been able to satisfy them. Alone among men they covet with equal eagerness poverty and riches. To robbery, slaughter, plunder, they give the lying name of empire; they make a solitude and call it peace."
- Calgacus, Caledonian Chieftain.

Track Name: The Painted Ones
I awoke in the night to smoke and light.
Torches from far off lands set flame to our rooftops; in ashes I stand.
It's reminiscent of winter's first snow, but no one's prepared for this
They come by the thousands, but we will stand.
We will make them know the strength of this land.
This means war.
And war means blood.
And blood means loss.
But this time it's worth it.
We've nothing to lose but freedom to gain,
We'll look to the sky when Roman arrows rain.
But we will not yield to invaders or liars or thieves.
We will stand, you will see.
Emptiness in your own philosophy.
We will stand, you will see.
Crumbling walls that you spread like disease.
We will stand, you will see.
Strength in the land that you once saw as weak.
As we paint it red with your blood.
We will stand.
You will fall.
Track Name: Forsworn
Honesty is what our hearts have held since our birth.
But as a lying empire rises, they cast it in the dirt.
Defiant, we hold fast to the ways of our home.
For when their scrolls are burning, our laws are set in stone.
We're not as easily corrupted as they,
Who fight beneath a banner that's never been so vague.
They don't know the extent of their oath.
A war that's not their own will drive them from their homes.
In service to a tyrant who will never have enough.
They live and die as slaves, but it was their choice to make.
We will rise against these chains until the shackles break.
Inspiration to the lame, defying the weakness that's so easy to fake.
Oh, its never been this easy to fake.
Track Name: As Wind Sways The Trees
Dust collects like snow
Across the mantles of abandoned homes
Stone by stone we built them
But now they stand alone
As wind will sway the trees
So will these memories
Coerce us into action
Reclaiming what we need
But on and on it goes
Waiting, on and on it goes
Waiting, faces marked with woad
Watching through the branches
Under cover of a moonless night
This is a game of waiting, not a mindless fight
The warrior has become the hunter
And his patience will reap reward
The army of an empire, drunk with their own glory
Has become surrounded, and is now the hunter's quarry
Let the arrows fly
Track Name: Of Blood & Rust
The sun will rise tomorrow, but it will shine on a broken and ravaged land.
As the sun now sets, hold fast to the hope of the day when we will be end to this war.
But until that day, my blade will fight decay
As the blood of my enemies threatens to rust away the edge that will serve to separate defeat from my people, and morale from the others.
For every drop of blood we shed; we're one step closer to ending them.
And every soul we lose to them is one more reason we cannot relent.
As the raging tide, we cannot relent.
As the fires rise, we cannot relent.
Our home will never be the same, but our freedom won't be borrowed.
We'll take it back.
The sun will rise tomorrow.
